Squad sheets: Portsmouth v Wolverhampton Wanderers

This virtual dead rubber will probably hold a keen interest for the respective supporters these clubs and hardly anyone else. Mick McCarthy has done a fine job guiding Wolves to Premier League safety, while Portsmouth have been doomed to the Championship for weeks. There is a frisson, though, from Avram Grant praying that an already skeletal squad is not further depleted by injury ahead of the FA Cup final with Chelsea. McCarthy also revealed he will be watching the Pompey players closely for possible bargains. Jamie Jackson

Squad sheets: Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Just in time perhaps Wolves have started to put together the sort of peformances which might keep them in the Premier League for another season. Having held Aston Villa 1-1 at Molineux in October, Mick McCarthy’s side can be expected to prove obdurate opponents at Villa Park. Villa needed Tuesday’s win at Wigan to keep up their pursuit of fourth place but anything less than a win would revive doubts about the ability of Martin O’Neill’s side to stay the course. One goal is likely to settle it either way but a draw cannot be ruled out. David Lacey

Squad sheets: Bolton Wanderers v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Bolton received a more positive estimate on centre-back Gary Cahill – an initial three-month lay-off due to a blood clot downsized to four weeks – but their biggest problem is at the other end of the field. Owen Coyle’s team have not scored for 505 minutes in the Premier League, a spell which has coincided with a slip into the relegation zone, while their fellow Wanderers’ 21 goals represents the top-flight’s joint-lowest return. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, whose side begin a point better off, said: “Let’s not go up there and make it a really open game and find ourselves 1-0 down and struggling.” Expect a thriller.
